Ear Training

Ear training is an important part of piano lessons.  I was surfing this morning and came across a nice site that has a bunch of (some free) tools that can help.  The site is called www.EarPower.com and it is run by Fast&Soft Music Software.  Here's a description of the Ear Power tool from the site:

..."An attractive and useful ear training program which can be used unboringly as a daily routine! Compact and easy to use, it still contains lots of features, and can help anyone, from the so called "tone-deaf" person up to the professional musician."

There's another tool there called Sight Singer.  Here's what they say about it...

"...Wouldn't you like to look at a music score and be able to hear that music in your mind? Well trained musicians can do it. Sight-Singing is the key. This is a unique program which may help you develop this ability. It has voice pitch recognition capability. It will generate random melodic drills on selected scales, or play custom melodic lines. Take a look at the notes and try to hear them in your mind. But since the computer cannot read your mind you will have to sing or hum each note. The computer will listen and help you correct the intonation..."

You should take a look at Ear Steady and Ear Test too, which are additional products described on the site.  The fees for these are very reasonable.  Go to www.EarPower.com and take a look.  Spruce up your piano lesson routine with some ear training.
