Easy Piano Classics (First Music)

P. Hawthorn
ISBN: 0746006438, Paperback - BUY

A reader wrote...My daughter's piano teacher uses the book as one of the core books to teach her students. The classical pieces in the book are fun and shortened versions of famous classics that we've all heard at one time or another. My daughter likes the book a lot that she's picked out Symphony #40 as a recital piece. The book also includes short bios of the most famous composers which is a good reading for the children.

The Complete Piano Player: Omnibus Edition (Complete Piano Player Series)

Kenneth Baker
ISBN: 0825624398, Paperback - BUY

A reader wrote... After having been a musician in school many years ago, I decided to buy an electronic keyboard and learn to play the piano. Browsing the beginning piano lesson books, I found too many that were too basic (what is a note?) to too advanced. I then stumbled across this gem and decided to buy it. What a great decision!  The early chapters do present some basic music theory which I quickly browsed through. Later chapters though provided me with enough challenge to push me. When the pieces were mastered I moved to the next. I really felt my skills at the keyboard increase.  What makes this book so good are the arrangements. The songs are, for the most part, pieces I know and like and range from traditional to popular to classical. The structure of the arrangements provides a pleasing sound yet aren't terribly difficult to master. Even though I have moved beyond this book, I still return to it on occasion to replay pieces that I really enjoy ("This Nearly Was Mine" still gives me chills when I play it).  I highly recommend this book to the older person who has some musical training, however rusty, and would like to extend it to playing the piano.

Keyboardists Picture Chord Encyclopedia (Piano Book)

Vogler
ISBN: 0825611326, Hardcover - BUY

A reader wrote....I purchased this book because it was the most complete book of keyboard chords that I could find. The chords for each note are ordered in an intuitive way. This book has every chord that I have ever tried to find. There is a chart in the front section that shows alternate names or symbols. That is, the chart shows that 13 may also be shown as 7(add13) or 7(add6).  One thing I particularly like about the book is the simple, uncluttered, and easy to read presentation. The pictures of each chord are large enough to see easily. While they do present 78 chords for every note, there are only 8 chords per page. This book measures about 12" by 9". It's very handy to open the book to the page I need. While I'm playing, I can quickly glance over to see the chord one more time.  I have found this book to be highly useful and recommend it to anyone looking for a keyboard chord book.
